What are your absolute biggest challenges that never seem to get done or caught up?

Being a small business owner is not easy! Juggling a business, family, yourself and maintaining it allcan be quite a feat! Many times there will be things that fall behind or get left out because we just can’t seem to get to it all. I put myself on what I call the “no maintenance” plan quite awhile back to tackle just these sorts of issues.
I have really worked hard on getting rid of maintenance issues in the past 6 years. I got really sick and tired of feeling frazzled and behind. I’ve developed a lot of little methods to get rid of the backups, clutter, and problems so that I just don’t have those issues any more.
So my challenge for you today is to think of 5 things that you always seem to be behind on or that just don’t get done and post them as a comment to this post. It can be related to business, home, family, self, kids, cars, dinner time – you name it! So come on ladies – let’s hear it!

Podcasts Revealed: What is a podcast, How to subscribe to a podcast with your Ipod or computer, & more…

Ok, I had a seriously “aha” moment today and I have one lady to thank for that – the lady running the Her Big Idea website. You have changed my world!

I checked out one of her podcasts today over on her website and at the end of that podcast she quickly described how to subscribe to a podcast on ITunes. I’ve had an Ipod for awhile and have even seen a few podcasts that I would have liked to subscribed to but I just haven’t had the time to look it all up and figure out how to get it to work.

I wanted to share this info with you ladies just in case any of you have been wondering how to do this yourself. First, let’s answer some questions that I’m sure some of you might have.

What is a podcast?

It is like a radio show, except that it is internet based.

Do I need an Ipod to subscribe to a podcast?

Nope. You can subscribe in ITunes (or other podcast subscription software) and just download it to your computer and listen to it there.

Do I have to subscribe to a podcast in order to listen to it?

No. You can usually download a single podcast. Just find a podcast you are interested in (search through Google or look in the ITunes store under podcasts), read the show description, and download just the show you want.

Why would I download a podcast to my Ipod?

To save time. That way you can listen to a show while you are walking, doing laundry, going to the gym (well, at least we can list it. Even if you don’t actually get there!), relaxing while you watch the kids nap (you do that don’t you ? :) , packing lunches, scrubbing the bathroom, or any number of other things that you may be doing during your day.

To keep from bogging your computer down. If your computer doesn’t have enough power to listen to a podcast and surf the net at the same time, then download a couple of shows, throw on your headphones, and listen while you surf!

To keep your kids from forcing you to lose your mind. This idea is for your worst of days. Stop yelling at your kids and just plug in your ipod instead and listen to a pre-downloaded show instead. It’s difficult to be so frustrated when you are really listening to someone else talk! This idea really does work! I’ve done it myself during a few of the early days with my last baby. I would hold, comfort, and love on her when she would cry while I had my Ipod plugged into my ears to help mute all of the crying. It really helped me to stay calm.

How To Find A Podcast In ITunes

1. Open your ITunes program on your computer

2. Look on the top menu bar for the word “STORE” and click on it.

3. Click on “SEARCH” from the drop down menu.

4. In your main window (that should now be showing the search features), change the POWER SEARCH drop down from “ALL RESULTS” to “PODCASTS”.

5. Now you can either put in the exact title or you can put in a word of the title that you are looking for. You can also do this with the description box.

6. Click on the podcast you want to know more about.

7. I highly recommend downloading at least 2 shows and listening to them before subscribing! Sometimes the content is not what you thought it would be (the quality is just not there) or perhaps their sound quality is so bad that it just makes listening to their podcasts unbearable.

How To Subscribe To A Podcast

1. Once you find a show that you like using the instructions above, just click on subscribe! (Everything that I subscribed to was free.)

2. Now, all you have to do is plug in your Ipod and sync it up with your ITunes. This will download the latest show to your IPod. –OR — You can also just go to the Podcast category in your ITunes, and drag the podcast that you want down to your IPod.
